The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has unveiled a new initiative, #InvestNigeria, aimed at promoting investment in Nigeria’s capital market and boosting financial literacy among Nigerians.
Speaking at the rollout event over the weekend, SEC Director General Dr. Emomotimi Agama emphasized the importance of the campaign in educating potential investors about the benefits and opportunities in the capital market.
He noted that improved investment awareness could contribute significantly to economic growth and financial deepening.
“Advertising is a powerful tool that can help educate investors about various investment products, risks, and rewards,” Agama said.
“By promoting investment opportunities such as initial public offerings (IPOs), bonds, and mutual funds, we can attract both domestic and foreign investors, ultimately driving economic activity and job creation.”
The initiative, he explained, is designed to enhance market liquidity and efficiency, while promoting transparency and investor protection.
“Equipping investors with the knowledge to spot scams, avoid Ponzi schemes, and make informed decisions is central to our mission,” he added.
Agama highlighted plans to leverage multiple channels, including billboards, social media, online advertising, and email marketing, to reach a broad audience.
The Commission also aims to collaborate with financial influencers, bloggers, and thought leaders to amplify the campaign.
“We will host seminars, workshops, and conferences to educate investors and promote investment opportunities,” Agama said.
“Our goal is to ensure that information about the capital market is accessible to everyone, fostering trust and encouraging participation.”
He underscored the knowledge-driven nature of the capital market, stressing the need for continuous education.
.“The market thrives on knowledge. We are committed to making information readily available to investors and partnering with stakeholders to take this message to every corner of the country,” he said.
