‘We handed over 5000 vehicles, N1bn duty to Nigeria Customs’

The Comptroller-General of Customs, Dikko Inde Abdullahi has said that so far, over 5000 vehicles have been handed over with duty of N1 billion to Nigeria Customs Service under his leadership as Vice-Chairman, World Customs Organisation (WCO).

The CG who gave account of his stewardship in a Press Briefing in Abuja said the feet was possible through the introduction of regional cooperation in transit and security matters which has helped to save resources often deployed to pursue smugglers and lead to loss of lives of operatives.

Dikko said Nigeria’s tenure as Vice-Chair has brought tremendous benefits to Nigeria, adding that the benefits may not be quantifiable in monetary terms.

He listed some of his achievements to include, “the hosting right for the WCO Policy Commission held in Abuja in December 2011 and the contribution to the Economy through Conference Tourism.

“Technical expertise into the establishment of Nigeria Customs Command and Staff College, Gwagwalada, and its designation as a WCO Regional Training Centre.

“Increased visibility of Nigeria in the activities of WCO, leading to many countries seeking collaboration with Nigeria. During the period, we signed Co-operation Agreements with Customs Administration of USA, Argentina, South Africa, UAE and Turkey.

“Recognition and support for capacity building program of the service, with particular emphasis on Border Patrol Operations supported by United States and valuation matters supported by India.

He said the last four years as the Vice-Chairman, World Customs Organisation (WCO) have been a great learning experience. He therefore commended President Goodluck Jonathan for his support to Nigeria’s leadership of the region.
