Public infrastructure: Abuja residents implored to refer maintenance to FCTA

As part of precautionary measures to disaster outbreak, Abuja residents are implored to aways refer maintenance of public infrastructure to relevant Secretariats, Departments and Agencies (SDAs) of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).
This charge was handed down by the Acting Director General of the FCT Emergency Management Department (FEMD), Engr. Abdulrahman Mohammed.
This, Mohammed noted was necessary to ensure proper and timely handing of such infrastructure, to avoid it deteriorating further or causing avoidable emergencies in the Territory.
He therefore appealed to residents to always use the 112 emergency toll free number in the event of an emergency.
A statement from FEMD’s head of Public Affairs, Nkechi isa, said FEMD boss spoke after the rescue of 3 men trapped in a blocked manhole at Guzape in Asokoro District of the FCT.
Recall that the three men were rescued by a combined team of FEMD, FCT Fire service and NEMA.
According to the FEMD Search and Rescue Team, two of the trapped men, who are labourers were engaged to clear debris that clogged the manhole leading to a central sewage system.
The statement had explained that a build up of trapped methane gas caused an explosion, resulting in both men being suffocated inside the manhole, and volunteer who attempted to rescue both men also got trapped.
While one of the rescued men was rushed for treatment at the Wuse General Hospital, two others were taken to the Asokoro District Hospital for proper care.
