Bauchi State Government said it recorded 187 casualties, including 24 deaths.
The government added that the flood displaced more than 30,436 households comprising of over 293,300 individuals.
Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed explained this yesterday at the distribution of ECOWAS Flood Response Project in Bauchi State, valued at $200,000.
The aim was to provide relief to victims of the 2024 floods.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Aminu Hammayo, Governor Bala expressed gratitude to the high-level delegation from the ECOWAS Commission, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, and the Nigerian Red Cross Society.
He said Assessment by the State Emergency Management Agency and other supervisory authorities indicated that the floods had caused large-scale displacement of more than 30,436 households comprising over 293,300 individuals.
“Over 52,000 houses were destroyed or badly damaged while several hectares of farmlands were washed away, 187 casualties were at some point reported including 24 deaths”.
Governor Bala said the distribution of palliatives is a small step towards alleviating the hardship and commended the efforts of the Ministry for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction and ECOWAS Commission for this kind gesture of providing support to victims affected by the 2024 flood in Bauchi State.
