The Tax Justice & Governance Platform (TJ & GP) has harped on the need for gender-responsive tax reforms to promote fairness, equity, and economic empowerment for women in Kaduna state.

Speaking at a two-day capacity building workshop for CSOs on advocacy for gender-responsive tax reforms, yesterday, the Coordinator of TJ & GP, Mr Simeon Olatunde stressed the need for tax policies that considers the unique challenges faced by women.

According to him, the workshop which was in partnership with Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) and supported by Christian aid will equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to advocate for inclusive tax policies.

He added that the engagement was to enhance participants’ ability to identify and analyse gender gaps in tax systems, including policies, laws, and administrative processes and also to promote strategic partnerships among stakeholders to advocate equitable and transformative tax policies.

Mr Olatunde opined that the current tax system disproportionately affects women, exacerbating existing gender inequalities hence the need to empower women groups and CSOs with advocacy skills for collective engagement of policymakers on gender-responsive tax reforms.
