Impeachment: I have no deal with Nyako, says Modibbo

Date:

Dr. Mohammed ModibboBy Lawrence Olaoye

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former Executive Secretary, Universal Basic Education (UBE), Dr. Mohammed Modibbo, yesterday debunked the insinuation that he met secretly with the Adamawa state governor, Murtala Nyako, to discuss who will succeed him should he get impeached.

The governorship hopeful on the platform of the PDP said the clarification has become pertinent because some stakeholders in the party have begun to call him to confirm the veracity of the rumour making the rounds.

Modibbo, who said he remains an unflinching member of the PDP, stressed that he had never met with the embattled Adamawa governor since he chose to dump the party for the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).

The ex UBEC boss made this known in a press statement signed by his counsel, Sulaiman Usman, just as he maintained that the rumour emanated from his political detractors who are bent on knocking his head against the leadership of the party both at the state and national levels.

The statement read in part “There was a baseless report that our client had a private meeting with Governor Murtala Nyako and struck a deal for Nyako to support our client in the race to succeed him.

“The said news item depicted our client as someone who is not a loyal member of the Peoples Democratic Party but a mole in the party who is placed to work against the interest of the party he laboured to build for many years.

“It also portrayed Dr. Modibbo as engaging in anti-party activities and calculated to disparage and pitch him against the presidency and the leadership of the People’s Democratic Party thereby jeorpadizing his political aspiration to become Governor of Adamawa State.

“It is instructive to state unequivocally that Dr. Modibbo has not met Nyako since the governor left PDP for APC. He remains a loyal and committed member of the Peoples Democratic Party,” he added.
