From Mustapha Adamu, Kano
Malam Inuwa Waya, the Kano state gubernatorial aspirant in 2023 governorship election, under the platform of All Progressives Congress, APC, has assured that he has no intention of leaving the party.
Recall that Waya contested for the governorship race in the then ruling APC in Kano, but withdrew for its flag bearer, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna at the 11th hour.
Since then, Waya had not been heard or seen in the politics of the state and the country at large.
But, appearing in a video granting an interview with a journalist, monitored in Kano, Waya, a politician and philanthropist said he had an unflinching belief in the principles and ideologies of the APC, as such he see no reason of dumping the party.
According to Waya, although he is not ruling out, but defecting to another political party is farfetched in view of the good manifesto of the ruling APC in the country.
“I believe in APC principles and ideologies. Unless there are compelling circumstances, i see no reason to defect to another party.”.
“I am not ruling out, but i am saying that unless if there is something that happens, but for now, i am okay and i am happy.
“I am a loyal party member and ready to contribute my own little quota in whatever way possible,” he disclosed.
On his withdrawal from the 2023 gubernatorial race at the 11th hour, Waya disclosed that it was a decision taken in the spirit of oneness and togetherness, adding that he still contributed a lot to the party during electioneering campaigns and polls.
Narrating the circumstance that led to his withdrawal, Waya disclosed that the leadership of the party convened a caucus meeting at the instance of the then governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the party’s Chairman, Abdullahi Abbas and other party juggernauts.
“At the meeting, they asked me, in the spirit of oneness, in the spirit of togetherness, if i will agree to withdraw for Dr Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna.
“They believed that he is someone who was in the system and would be better if he was given the chance to continue. And if i allow it to go,as the most popular aspirant then, the party would go into full-blown primary election without any rancour.
“So i decided that this is fine for me in the spirit of togetherness and keeping the party one and in the spirit of party cohesion. So i decided to withdraw and give my support to Gawuna, who is a gentleman by the way, and i believe if he succeed, he would carry the mantle of leadership based on the aims and objectives of the APC asa a party,” he disclosed.
