Guard bags 1 year imprisonment for stealing from Falana’s Chambers

Crime_02A 22-year old security guard, Danlami Ayuba, is to spend one year in prison for theft, after a Senior Magistrates’ court in Wuse Zone 2, Abuja, sentenced him accordingly.

Ayuba, who is from Gwalibe, Gurara Local Government Area of Niger state, was a security guard attached to Mr. Femi Falana’s Chambers, at Maitama District, Abuja.

 He was arraigned on a count-charge of theft by servant.

He was alleged to have entered into one of the offices, opened the drawer, stole N220, 000 and absconded to an unknown place.

Ayuba pleaded guilty and prayed the court to forgive him, saying:  “Things are tough with me, my father died and left in my care five siblings and my mother.’’

Following the plea of guilty, the magistrate, Mr. Christopher Oba, sentenced Ayuba to one year in prison.

“You are thereby convicted and sentenced to one year in prison for theft without fine; the law must take its course not withstanding excuses,” the magistrate said.

He also ordered that N81, 000 recovered from him be returned to the nominal complainant.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Cpl Emmanuel Adikwu, told the court that on July 4, at about 11.30a.m, one Mr. Moses Ogunware of No. 22 Imani Estate came to Maitama Police Station to lodge a report.

He said that on June 14, Ayuba entered into one of the offices in Mr. Femi Falana’s chambers and made away with N220, 000 from one of the drawers.

Adikwu told the court that Ayuba then absconded to an unknown place until the day he was arrested in his village and N81, 000 was recovered from him.

He informed the court that this contravened the provision of section 289 of the Penal code law. (NAN)
