2015: Information minister tasks youths against violence

Information Minister, Labaran Maku, has called on Nigerian youths to desist from being used as thugs during and after the upcoming general elections in 2015.

A statement from the Minister’s media and publicity secretary, Joseph Mutah, said he made the call when he received youths and elders of the Eggon Political Forum, in Nasarawa State.

According to the statement, the Minister’s call was contained in a communiqué issued by the Eggon Political Elders Forum,  with the minister which stated that they had endorsed Maku and President Goodluck Jonathan as their consensus candidates for the governorship and presidential elections respectively in Nasarawa State in 2015.

The statement further disclosed that at the meeting, Eggon leaders from the  three senatorial zones of Nasarawa state  took turns to buttress their endorsement of President Jonathan  and the information minister for the elections.

It said the communiqué issued listed the establishment of a federal university in Lafia, construction of the Loko-Oweto bridge across River Benue, construction of Lafia-Doma and Lafia-Awe road as well as the construction of a Federal Secretariat as some of the projects provided for the state under President Jonathan which have earned him their support.

Maku was also described as a man of peace that had remained above the fray of ethnic and communal clashes that engulfed the state and used his position to pursue the cause of peace, reconciliation and unity among the warring communities in Nasarawa State.
