Senator Nicholas Tofowomo, who represented Ondo South Senatorial District in the 9th National Assembly, has lashed out at the leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), Ondo State, for allegedly betraying the party’s Publicity Secretary, Kennedy Peretei.

While disclosing that Peretei, who served the party in various capacities, had no choice but to leave following an alleged sabotage being perpetrated against him by those he described as party leaders.

Peretei had on Wednesday, resigned from the party after citing the party leadership’s lack of intention to win elections as the reason for his departure, adding that the opposition party is already heading for the mortuary.

The erstwhile spokesperson of the party, expressed frustration with the party leadership’s “self-serving interests”, which he stated had crippled the party’s chances of winning elections.

Tofowomo, who stated the party leadership owed Peretei an apology for playing games with him and for betraying him, claimed the party’s leadership had previously invited Peretei to express interest in the party chairmanship position.

He lamented that after Peretei had spent time and resources travelling across the state to mobilise support, the party leadership betrayed him.

“Dr Eddy Olafeso, my respected leader, and Engr Clement Foboyede, a former chairman of the party, were living witnesses. If the leadership were not the ones who invited him to show interest, I would not have been this angry. It would have been a different story.

“They resolved that Peretei was a round peg in a round hole, but alas, they played him out just as they sidelined me during the governorship campaign, even as a former senator.”

Tofowomo further stressed that there is inequality within the party, particularly that Ondo North and Central have held the chairmanship positions for 12 years, leaving Ondo South behind.

“I am a bona fide member of the PDP, and I have paid my dues. As a senator, I was among those paying the rent for the secretariats, and to date, I was the one who bought all the chairs in the hall of the secretariat. I am not saying this to seek glory but to let the world know that our leaders are not fair. They are the ones killing the PDP.
