The Sahelian Institute for Bamboo Research and Entrepreneurship Development (SIBRED) in Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra state, has reassured of its committed to promoting eco-friendly use of bamboo and rattan for sustainable resources in the country.
The theme for this years earth day is; “Our Power, Our Planet”, calling on “everyone to unite around renewable energy” to help triple clean electricity by 2030.
Speaking at the celebration, Director, SIBRED, Dr. John Agbo Ogbodo said SIBRED and its partners are concerned about fighting nature for forests, bamboo grasslands, oceans, and rivers.
Ogbodo stated that, “We are going to involve people, family and future generations in ensuring that the Mother Earth is sustained.
He emphasized that the fight also involved
Climate for cooler temperatures, fewer weather emergencies, stability, and a net-zero future.
He said SIBRED is committed to protecting planet for sustainable tomorrow.
Ogbodo stated that
on behalf of the Minister of Environment and Chairman of SIBRED Advisory Board, Balarabe Lawal, “we extend our heartfelt gratitude and invaluable support and partnership to Acting Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka and Co-Chair of SIBRED Advisory Board, Prof. Joseph Ikechebulu,Member SIBRED Advisory Board (USA),Mrs. Diana Doheny, Chairman, Global Taskforce on Sustainable Bamboo Management (TFSBM) and Member, SIBRED Advisory Board (India) Dr. E. Murali, Founder and Executive Director, Climate Smart Agriculture Youth Network Global (GCSAYN), Ohio, USA, Divine Ntiokam and Deputy Director, SIBRED, Dr. Adaeze Nnedinma Achugbu and among many other”.
Meanwhile, SIBRED and partners commemorated the 2025 International Mother Earth Day at both Awka and Nnewi Campuses of Nnamdi Azikiwe University.
