Benue State Governor, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia has tasked workers not to make the mathematical mistake of ensuring his re-election in 2027 to continue his good disposition to them.
This is just as he acknowledged the role of workers as the foundation on which his administration is building a new Benue.
Governor Alia who said this on Thursday during the celebration of May Day(Workers Day) held at the IBB Square, Makurdi said his administration has been treating old infectious wounds inflicted on workers by past governments.
“We will continue to work hard to better the lots of workers and the masses. Though we recognize the fact that the inflation rate is high, there will be some cushioning effects. I am a partner and comrade with you to drive the workforce. My administration approved 75,000 as minimum wage and we are committed to do more. We will pay one month arrear this month.
“We have reduced the long period for payment of gratuities. We have cleared 5 months of salary arrears including those of political appointees. We will ensure continued prompt payment of salaries, automation of the public services, training and retraining of workers as well as their promotion is a top priority. We have renovated the State secretariat and will continue to provide an enabling environment for workers to perform optimally”.
