Huawei Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing renewable energy adoption in the country through a collaborative training programme focused on green energy and solar power.
The initiative, held in partnership with the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation and the Ministry of Power, concluded on Friday in Abuja with a certificate presentation ceremony.
Jim Zhang, Huawei Nigeria’s Board Director, highlighted the company’s dedication to fostering sustainable energy solutions.
“We have been at the forefront of technological innovation in digital power,” Zhang said, speaking at the event.
“This training underscores our collective commitment to championing green energy initiatives in Nigeria.”
The training programme, tagged “Green Energy and Solar Power Training,” equipped civil servants, including directors and senior representatives, with technical expertise in solar energy and fostered a shared vision for a greener Nigeria.
He said participants engaged in hands-on workshops and discussions aimed at driving energy efficiency and sustainability.
Zhang urged attendees to apply their newly acquired skills in their workplaces, stating, “The future of energy is in our hands, and it is our responsibility to drive progress and innovation.”
In her keynote address, Mrs Didi Walson-Jack, Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, represented by Permanent Secretary Dr Kalba Danjuma Usman, praised Huawei for its investment in training Nigeria’s civil servants.
She noted that the commissioning of a one-megawatt solar power unit at the Office of the Head of Civil Service had significantly reduced operational costs.
“Since the installation of the mini-grid, we have used a generator only once, drastically cutting diesel expenses,” she said.
Walson-Jack also commended Huawei for adhering to regulations by enabling indigenous engineers to implement projects while providing reliable, high-quality products.
“For sponsoring this training, we sincerely appreciate your efforts. We know it comes at a cost, and we believe this partnership will yield mutual benefits.
She added, expressing hope for continued collaboration to expand solar infrastructure to other government offices.
Also,Ejuaoje Festus, Director General of the Head of Service, noted that the training, which began in March 2025, culminated in awards for six outstanding participants.
Osibe Ejike Emmanuel, a Director at the Ministry of Petroleum and the first-place winner, described the initiative as a “welcome development” and thanked Huawei for upskilling key ministry officers.
