The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command has sealed seven illegal private guards companies.
Speaking on Wednesday in Abuja, during the enforcement exercise, the Commandant, Olusola Odumosu said seven of the companies were operating illegally in FCT while one failed to renew its license.
“We are enforcing to enable them comply with the law guiding the operations of private guards companies in the country.
“The NSCDC is an agency of government charges with the responsibility of registering private guards companies. Unfortunately, a lot of people don’t want to follow due process to obtain the license that is why we are here to ensure that they do what is right.
“Security is very important, and we cannot relax and allow everybody to do what he likes.
We need to check and know the people who are protecting businesses and people in certain communities.”
He expressed worry that some of the employers don’t know the history of the people they employ to serve in such companies, harping on the need for background check in line with the rules and regulations establishing private guards companies in the country.
“We have had cases where some of these guards are used for kidnaps or serve as informants for kidnappers in various places.
“Some of the people we discovered are foreigners which should not be; foreigners cannot operate security outfits in Nigeria.
“Also, people cannot just wake up one day and decide uniforms for themselves. Everything must follow due process as recognized by law.”
Meanwhile, the security guards companies affect during the exercise included: CEWARA SECURITY (ESTATE) – WUSE ZONE 4; MOST BRIGHT SECURITY – MKK PLAZA, SUITE 107, JABI; SECURITY CHINA – LOMO COFFEE NO. 107 IBITU EBIKWU, JABI; EBOWISE SECURITY – SABONDALE PLAZA, JABI; BARUMARK ESTATE SECURITY – WUYE; SEGAD PROTECTION SECURITY SERVICES – PRINCE AND PRINCESS ESTATE and PRIAIR SECURITY – AFTER PRINCE AND PRINCESS, DURUMI AXIS.
