Vice President Kashim Shettima on Sunday commissioned 375 refurbished tractors and 351 new farm implements in Borno State, marking a major boost for the state’s agricultural sector.

The tractors, owned by the Borno State Government, were restored to full working condition by the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) under its National Assets Recovery, Refurbishment, and Redeployment Project.

The commissioning took place at the Borno State Agricultural Mechanisation Authority (BOSAMA) headquarters in Maiduguri.

The Vice President commended Governor Babagana Umara Zulum for his leadership, stating: “My greatest commendation goes to the Governor of Borno State for his commitment to providing exemplary leadership.”

He also lauded NASENI for its role in advancing Nigeria’s agricultural productivity, saying: “We have seen NASENI at work in CNG retrofitting, renewable energy, and agricultural mechanisation. To solve Nigerian problems, we must localise global technologies—and agencies like NASENI must be supported to secure our nation’s future.”

Governor Zulum revealed that the tractors were originally procured by then-Governor Shettima between 2011 and 2019.

“Senator Shettima acquired 1,000 tractors and implements during his tenure. Beyond that, he also procured 250 groundnut diggers, 250 fertiliser broadcasters, 250 rotavators, 250 balers, and 25 combined harvesters—a visionary investment in our agricultural future,” Zulum noted.
