Government Secondary School, Karshi has emerged victorious at the 2025 edition of the Junior Chamber International (JCI) Aso Secondary School Debate held in Abuja.
The intellectually engaging event, which brought together top-performing schools from across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), saw students debate on the topic: “The Role of Technology in Fighting Financial Corruption: A Game Changer or a Flawed Solution?”
Karshi’s team impressed both judges and audience with their well-researched arguments and confident delivery, securing the top spot. Merosa Academy, Kubwa, claimed second place, while Stella Maris College and Metro International Secondary School, both also from Kubwa, came third and fourth respectively.
The debate featured a keynote speech from the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr Musa Adamu Aliyu SAN.
He emphasised the importance of digital surveillance in tackling corruption and ensuring financial transparency.
“Investing in digital transformation is essential for national development and governance,” Aliyu said, citing examples from Kenya, Brazil, and China to underscore the effectiveness of technology in fighting financial crimes.
Speaking with journalists, JCI Aso Executive Vice President, Ambassador Emmanuel Peter, said the 12th edition of the debate aims to inspire young minds and foster leadership, public speaking, and critical thinking skills.
“This initiative aligns with SDG Goal 4 on quality education. We want to prepare students for a fast-changing world and ensure they’re equipped for future challenges,” Peter explained.
MTN Nigeria, a key supporter of the event, reaffirmed its commitment to educational development.
“This is part of our social responsibility. MTN is here to support and partner in building the next generation,” said Mr Usman Muhammad, Senior Sales and Development Executive.
The event, organised in collaboration with the FCT Secondary Education Board and the Federal Ministry of Education, served as a platform to empower youth and promote national discourse on leadership, technology, and transparency.
