Woman in trouble for duping job seeker

A 30-year-old woman, Abigail Ogundeji, has appeared before a Wuse Zone 2 Senior Magistrates’ court, Abuja, charged with a two-count charge of criminal breach of trust and cheating.

Ogundeji, of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), was alleged to have collected N592,000 from one Mr Chris Izah, of  Tudun Wada village Lugbe, Abuja, with a promise to secure a job for him at the NSCDC, but failed to do so.

The prosecutor, Cpl. Paul Anigbo, told the court that Izah reported the case at the Lugbe police station on July 14.

According to him, the complainant gave the accused N592,000 to help him obtain employment at the NSCDC, adding that the  accused did not secure the job and also failed to return the money.

He said that the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 312 and 322 of the Penal code respectively.

If convicted, the accused faces a term which may extend to 10 years imprisonment with fine or both.

The accused however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor prayed the court to grant him a date to open his case against the accused consequent upon her plea of not guilty.

The magistrate, Mr. Abdullazeez Anka, admitted the accused on bail in the sum of N300,000 and a surety in like sum.

Anka ordered that the surety must be a public servant not below Grade Level 12, who must be resident within the jurisdiction of the court.

He adjourned the case until August 5, for hearing proper. (NAN)
