How floods displaced 200 families in Zaria

Not less than 200 families in Wuchichiri village of Zaria local government area of Kaduna state were reportedly sacked by flooding, following Wednesday night’s heavy downpour.

The affected villages include; Maganda, Tudun-Iya, Kwarin-Ila, Fanga, Zakara, Kaladi, Damanko, and Aba bridge.

Narrating their ordeal, a community leader in Maganda, Alhaji Dalhatu Mohammed Maganda,  stated that many houses were destroyed as a result of which the families had to be evacuated.

He pointed out that property worth millions of naira had been lost to the disaster, adding that their farms were also washed away by the flood.

According to Mohammed,  “The incident destroyed electric poles and wires that supply power from Aba-Maganda.

“We want to appeal to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr Abbas Tajuddeen, Iyan Zazzau, and the chairman of Zaria local government,  Jamilu Muhammed, to come to our aid to expedite action on the completion of the Aba Bridge, which links all the villages mentioned,  with Zaria township.

“I could remember that, Iyan Zazzau came here and promised us that this bridge would be completed within the shortest possible time. We are reminding him of his promise.

“We are praying for him to fulfill his promise as we are in the rainy season and facing a lot of problems.”
