2015: Group wants Murtala’s son to contest Kano guber poll

An amalgamation of six associations under the aegis of Kano Good Governance Project has called on the only surviving son of the former Head of State, General Murtala Ramat Mohammed, Abba Risqua Murtala Mohammed, to contest for the governorship seat of the state in 2015.

In a press conference held at Murtala Mohammed Library, Kano, the Coordinator of the group, Shehu Usman Umaru reiterated that it was after careful and acute dispassionate study of the low and high profile Kano indigenes that they found out that as the condition was showing, no any other person has the capacity to capture the state than him.

“As the only surviving son of General Murtala Ramat Muhammad, we find it desirous and needful to approach Alhaji Abba Risqua Murtala Muhammad with sincere proposal to come forward and serve people of Kano state, as we are also confident that he would bring to bear the numerous inborn noble leadership qualities bequeathed to him by his great father,” Umaru stressed.

The group consisted of six associations which include, Sabon Gari Peace Movement, Good Leadership for Positive Change in Kano, Supporters of General Murtala Ramat Muhammad, among others. They vowed to continue putting all necessary pressures on Risqua to come forward and declare his intention as election is fast approaching.

According to the group, the fame and ideal leadership capacity demonstrated by Risqua’s father, which were appreciated by all sections of the country, were enough reasons for him to be accepted by Kano people, so long as the idea was to have quality leadership in the state.

The Coordinator said Risqua should come forward to complement the efforts of his late father in the development of the state in particular and the nation in general. When asked on the platform they would want him to contest, the Coordinator said they were they to accept whatever political party he may chose.
