Academic and non-academic staff of the Kaduna State College of Nursing Sciences have suspended their three-day warning strike following interventions from stakeholders and assurances from the state government.
The workers, who are members of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, KSCONS chapter, began the industrial action on Monday due to the alleged failure of the college management to implement staff promotions for three consecutive years.
In a statement signed by the state chapter chairman, Dr. Daniel Danboyi, the suspension of the strike takes effect immediately. He noted that the decision was made after “due consultations and interventions led by prominent individuals who have the college’s interest at heart.”
Danboyi commended Governor Uba Sani for his “commitment to education in the state,” emphasizing that “the union was encouraged by the governor’s assurance of addressing their grievances.”
He also praised the “solidarity and compliance of staff during the warning strike,” describing it as “a testament to the power of unity and collective action.”
However, the union did not disclose whether a formal agreement had been reached with the government regarding the pending promotion issue.
