The Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) has strongly condemned the violent outbreak at a political rally allegedly organized by former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, at one of its facilities in Kaduna.
The NUT National President, Comrade Audu Titus Amba, expressed regret over the incident, stating that the union would not have approved the meeting if they had known about it earlier.
Addressing newsmen in Kaduna on Sunday, Amba, said, “ NUT completely dissociates itself from what happened on Saturday by former governor Nasir El-Rufai, using one of our edifices to hold his political meeting.
“If we had known earlier, nobody would have given El-Rufai the approval to hold any meeting there.”
He explained that teachers in Kaduna State started a contribution known as “END well”, to help them after retirement.
According to him, the contribution started in 1999 by primary and secondary school teachers in the state, following the incident of the military governor, Ahmed Ali, where many workers were laid off, adding that a good number of teachers, through their contributions, were able to build houses and other things that could help them.
