The President of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Amb. Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo, has declared that he will never take for granted the unsolicited goodwill and unwavering support of the government and people of Northern Nigeria, especially the youth, towards him.

Amb. Sukubo stated this at the North-West consultative meeting in Kano State on Thursday evening while canvassing for votes of delegates ahead of the National Elective Congress of the NYCN holding on Friday 19th to Monday 22nd September, 2025.

The Youth President, while expressing appreciation to the people of Northern Nigeria, said their goodwill towards him has been instrumental in his successes and accomplishments as the leader of the country’s apex youth body.

The consultative meeting, which was organized by the Kano State Chapter of NYCN in partnership with the State Government, had in attendance government representatives, Stakeholders of NYCN from the North-West geopolitical zone including members of the National Executive Committee, Board of Trustees, Advisory Council, Management Committee, the Seven State Chairmen of NYCN from the zone under the aegis of Forum of State Chairmen, Zonal Leaders, and Heads of Voluntary Youth Organizations from the zone.

Amb. Sukubo told the gathering that since joining the National Youth Council of Nigeria, the entire North has been his pillar of support, providing him with the strength and momentum to climb different ladders of leadership in NYCN.

He noted that the trust and confidence reposed in him by the government and people of Northern Nigeria especially the youth are unprecedented, enabling him to make significant strides in youth development and empowerment in the country.

Amb Sukubo said he was seeking the renewal of their mandate for another four-year term in office, pledging to consolidate and surpass the gains of his first term.

According to him, “So, today I am soliciting your support, today I am seeking your fresh mandate to continue as your servant leader, to continue as your steward“.

“I am here today to appeal to the North-West in particular and the entire North by extension, I have come to let you know how important you are to me, how the North have been supporting my administration since inception, I cannot take your goodwill and support for granted, I cannot stay at the comfort of my home to appeal for your vote, that is why I have come to you today appealing for your support and mandate once again“.

“I am a friend and brother to the North from inception, most of my activities within and outside the Youth Council including my private business revolve around the North, most of my appointees in the Youth Council are Northerners“, he said.

The Youth President said the revalidation of affiliated Voluntary Youth Organizations in NYCN recently carried out by his leadership, which greatly benefited the North, was a deliberate move to demonstrate appreciation to the people of Northern Nigeria for the goodwill and massive support he has consistently enjoyed from the region.

He noted that previous NYCN leaderships had avoided such an exercise due to the potential crises it might generate.

However, Amb. Sukubo emphasized that, recognizing its importance to the growth of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, especially in ensuring alignment with its constitution and regulatory requirements like CAC Registration, his administration decided to take the bold step of carrying out the revalidation exercise.

He said he was driven by courage, integrity, willpower, critical thinking, resilience, and decisiveness to embark on the difficult task, thereby upholding the credibility of NYCN, strengthening its network, and boosting its legitimacy.

His words,“I decided to take the bull by the horns on my own by embarking on the revalidation exercise, many National Youth Council Presidents have come and gone, anyone that attempted to do revalidation faced crisis that eventually removed such person from office, so on my own wisdom, I decided to make it happen.

“Today, as a result of the success of this initiative, I can boldly state that the North-East has 18 VYOs, North-West has 35 VYOs while North-Central has 31 VYOs“, he said.
