Sukubo vows not to take North’s goodwill for granted

The President of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Amb. Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo, has pledged never to take the goodwill and support of Northern Nigeria for granted.

He made the remarks on Thursday evening at the North-West Consultative Meeting in Kano, ahead of the NYCN National Elective Congress scheduled for 19–22 September, 2025.

Sukubo said the North had been his “pillar of support” since joining the youth council, helping him climb the ranks of leadership and achieve significant milestones in youth development.

> “I cannot take your goodwill and support for granted,” he told delegates. “That is why I have come personally to seek your mandate once again.”

The meeting, hosted by the Kano State chapter of NYCN in partnership with the state government, drew stakeholders from across the North-West, including state chairmen, zonal leaders, and representatives of voluntary youth organisations.

Sukubo highlighted the recent revalidation of affiliated youth groups under his leadership as a bold step to strengthen NYCN’s credibility and demonstrate appreciation for Northern support.

Past administrations had avoided the exercise due to fears of crisis, but Sukubo said he was determined to “take the bull by the horns.” He noted that the North-West now boasts 35 registered voluntary youth organisations, the highest in the country.

The Kano State Government praised Sukubo’s efforts. Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mustapha Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, commended his passion for empowerment, stressing that the state is ready to partner with national youth bodies to expand opportunities for young people.

Delegates from the North-West unanimously passed a vote of confidence on Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and Sukubo’s leadership. They also pledged to deliver bloc votes for him at the forthcoming congress.
