President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday formally unveiled the newly introduced 64-page Nigerian e-passport.

Jonathan, who unveiled the new passport policy at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, shortly before the commencement of the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC), challenged officers and men of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), especially those at the borders on projecting the country in a positive light.

The President tasked them to be of good conduct, since they are the first contacts with people from other countries, adding that anything untoward leaves a permanent impression in the minds of foreigners.

Speaking on the document, Minister of Interior, Comrade Abba Moro, said the document was a demand-driven initiative geared at enhancing the integrity of the country’s travel papers as well as the image of the Nigerian traveller anywhere in the world.

Moro, said the idea was based on some recommendations arising from the operational experiences of the NIS, prompting the Ministry of Interior to initiate reforms regarding the e-Passport.
