The Uba Sani Back2Back (USB2B) Movement has given plaudits to Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, for what it described as exceptional fiscal discipline, following official clarifications that the state has recorded zero borrowing across three consecutive budget cycles.
Speaking at a press conference in Kaduna, the Acting Chairman of the USB2B, Comrade Habeeb Bello, said the achievement has placed Governor Uba Sani in a rare class of leaders who have resisted the entrenched culture of deficit financing and unsustainable borrowing at the sub-national level.
Bello said sustaining a zero-borrowing posture over three budget cycles is an enviable record that underscores deliberate leadership choices anchored on prudence, accountability and long-term economic stability, especially at a time when many states rely heavily on loans to fund governance.
According to him, clarifications by the state government have made it clear that entries related to loans in budget documents merely reflect drawdowns from facilities contracted by previous administrations and do not amount to fresh borrowing under the Uba Sani administration.
He noted that by funding its budgets through statutory allocations, internally generated revenue and grants, the Kaduna State Government has strengthened fiscal stability, reduced debt exposure and ensured that public resources are directed toward projects with direct impact on the people.
USB2B declared that the governor’s fiscal restraint has helped safeguard future generations from avoidable debt burdens while enhancing public confidence in the management of the state’s finances.
The group called on other state governments to emulate Kaduna’s example, describing Governor Uba Sani’s zero-borrowing policy as a clear demonstration that responsible and people-centred governance can deliver sustainable development without mortgaging the future.
