In a significant humanitarian effort to ease economic hardship, Hon. Tijjani Zannah Zakariya has distributed food palliatives to more than 2,000 orphaned children across his constituency in Yobe State.

Hon. Zakariya, who represents the Machina/Nguru/Karasuwa/Yusufari Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, initiated the program to support vulnerable groups ahead of the Sallah festivities.

The large-scale distribution took place on Tuesday, with a total of 2,000 bags of assorted food items delivered to beneficiaries. The items included rice, beans, maize, and cooking oil.

The food supplies were distributed across several local government areas within the constituency, including Nguru, Machina, Karasuwa, and Yusufari.

According to the lawmaker’s coordinator, Malam Baba Alkali Yusufari, the exercise was conducted under the close supervision of the lawmaker’s representatives to ensure that the items reached the intended beneficiaries.

He explained that in Nguru town, 180 bags of food items were officially handed over to the Chairman of the Nguru Distribution Committee, Malam Musa Kallah, for onward distribution.

“This gesture is expected to bring significant relief to families caring for orphans, enabling them to celebrate the Sallah festivities with joy and a sense of normalcy,” Malam Baba said.

Members of Hon. Zakariya’s team emphasized that the initiative was driven by a deep sense of responsibility toward the less privileged in society.

“We pray to Almighty Allah to reward him abundantly for bringing smiles to the faces of the orphans who have lost their parents, so they may celebrate Sallah in happiness and peace,” a member of the team added.

The intervention forms part of the lawmaker’s ongoing commitment to community development and his dedication to ensuring that vulnerable members of society are not left behind during festive periods.

The team noted that the support came at a critical time when many families are struggling to make ends meet, and called on other wealthy individuals and well-meaning members of the community to emulate the act of kindness.
