2015: NYSC DG warns corps members not to be used by politicians

The Director-General, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Johnson Bamidele Olawumi has charged corps members not to allow themselves to be used by politicians during the next election, saying “that will tarnish the good image of the commission.

He made this assertion while addressing the corps members during his supervisory visit to the NYSC camp in Kaduna yesterday. “As you all know corps members have become part of electoral process in the country, we will train you and sensitize on how to go about it before the election begins next year so don’t collect any form of financial reward or gifts from politicians, where everyone of you will be assigned during the election,” he advised.

Gen. Olawumi admonished them to learn the tradition, culture and religion and be friendly with the people of their primary assignment so that the people will not be hostile to them.

He commended the efforts of the camp administration and the State government for their commitment adding that “The camp is very well organized and I’m particularly impressed with the administration of the camp and I thank the governor of Kaduna for his development in the camp.”

Gen Olawumi however encouraged the corps members not to be deterred by anything, as according to him, their security is being taken care of throughout their camping period. He advised them to be patriotic and be committed to the development of the community where they are going to serve.

Also speaking, the coordinator of NYSC Kaduna State Mr. Hilary Nasamu commended the DG for his visit saying that “the visit is special to us as the DG cannot visit all the camps, the camps he visit are carefully selected and when he came he was not disappointed”

He enjoined the corps members to be well-behaved as they are being giving thorough training that will help them in life.
