The North-West chapter of the Northern Youth Frontier has commended Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what it described as empathy and statesmanship following the death of Hajiya Ummah El-Rufai, mother of former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai.

In a statement issued by its North-West Coordinator, Saminu Turaki, the group expressed condolences to the El-Rufai family over the matriarch’s death on March 27, 2026, in Cairo, Egypt.

The group noted that her funeral in Abuja on March 29 was a solemn event that drew national reflection and unity.

Turaki said the President’s response to the loss demonstrated compassion and leadership.

He said, “Hajiya Ummah El-Rufai was not only a mother but a beacon of strength and virtue, whose life was characterised by unwavering commitment to her family and community.

“In this sombre time, the response from President Tinubu and the Federal Government embodies the spirit of unity and compassion essential in our diverse nation.”

The group also hailed the temporary release of El-Rufai to attend his mother’s funeral rites, describing it as a humane decision.

According to Turaki, the gesture by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission reflected justice and compassion.

“This act highlights the importance of familial bonds, which should be respected, especially during times of grief,” he said.

The group further acknowledged the condolence visit by Vice President Kashim Shettima, who described the deceased as “a woman of great virtue and a pillar of strength.”

It also praised the presence of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, who shared personal memories of the deceased as a caring maternal figure.

Turaki added that the show of solidarity by members of the All Progressives Congress and other political actors helped ease tensions and reinforced unity across political divides.

He said, “President Tinubu’s compassionate response reflects the qualities of true leadership and calls for empathy and understanding among Nigerians.

“Our collective strength lies in our ability to support one another in moments of loss.”

The group, however, urged leaders to sustain such virtues, stressing that compassion and unity remain critical for national progress.
