Sokoto cleric, Sheikh Bashir Ahmad Danfili escapes assassination attempt

A Sokoto-based renowned Islamic cletic, Sheikh Bashir Ahmad Danfili, on Thursday narrowly escaped an assassination attempt at his Bunza Road residence in Sokoto city.

The lone suspect, a middle-aged man who disguised himself as a mentally-deranged person stormed his home, causing panic, but no casualties were reported.

Investigations revealed that the suspect who was said to have hailed from Yabo town, Yabo Local Government Area of Sokoto State was immediately intercepted at the main gate of the residence of the popular Islamic preacher.

It was also gathered that no weapon was recovered from the suspect but his tattered clothes and some insignificant items, although he was with his National Identification Card.

This was the third time he has been targeted by suspected assailants.

Sheikh Bashir has been vocal about his stance, stating he is not afraid of death and his fate rests in Allah’s hands.

Sheikh Bashir Ahmad Danfili is also known for his dedication to Islamic scholarship and Da’awah.

He is a revered scholar with a strong foundation in the principles of Islam, and his teachings have left a lasting impact on the Muslim community.

It was further learnt that the case had been taken over by the Office of the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), X-Squad, Sokoto State Police Command.

The spokesperson of the Sokoto State Police Command, DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, has confirmed the story, disclosing that thorough investigations were being conducted on the incident.
