A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Dominic Alancha, has raised concerns over the rising wave of banditry and violent attacks in Benue State, describing the situation as a deepening security and governance crisis.
In a press statement on the worsening killings across several communities in the state, Alancha said what was once considered isolated incidents of insecurity has now escalated into a persistent humanitarian emergency, leaving families displaced and livelihoods destroyed.
He blamed the situation on what he described as weak governance and lack of proactive security measures, insisting that the primary duty of any government is the protection of lives and property.
According to him, the increasing frequency and brutality of attacks show a failure to adequately address the security challenges facing the state.
“The people of Benue deserve more than sympathy statements and reactive measures. They deserve decisive leadership, strategic security interventions, and policies that prioritize their safety and well-being,” the statement read.
Alancha called on citizens of the state to take the situation seriously and make informed decisions in future elections, stressing that leadership must be based on performance and accountability.
He said the current crisis should serve as a wake-up call for residents to demand better governance and leadership that prioritises security and welfare.
“This is not just a political moment, it is a moral obligation to stand for justice, security, and good governance,” he added.
While acknowledging the role of government in securing lives and property, Alancha directly criticised Governor Hyacinth Alia, alleging failure in fulfilling constitutional responsibilities in managing the security situation in the state.
He urged residents to remain alert and actively engage in the democratic process as a way of driving change and restoring peace in Benue State.
