A former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, has criticised factional National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nafiu Bala, over the ongoing leadership dispute within the party.
Melaye alleged that Bala was part of the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting that ratified the leadership of former Senate President David Mark as interim national chairman, alongside Rauf Aregbesola and others.
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television, monitored in Abuja, Melaye claimed that the meeting, held on July 29, 2025, was monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and that Bala was in attendance.
He argued that it was contradictory for Bala to now challenge a process he allegedly participated in, accusing him of “commercialising his conscience.”
According to Melaye, the party subsequently communicated the outcome of the NEC meeting to INEC in August 2025, notifying the commission of the new leadership structure.
He maintained that, by virtue of the NEC’s decision being the highest decision-making body of the party, Mark’s leadership had taken effect before Bala instituted legal action in September 2025.
Melaye further claimed that Bala had earlier resigned his position before contesting the leadership arrangement, insisting that the current dispute contradicts established party processes.
