Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano state has disbursed N334 million as empowerment grant to 6,680 women drawn from all the 44 local government areas of the state.

The grant is part of his administration’s efforts to empower women and improve livelihoods in households.

Each of the 6,680 women received N50,000.

ISpeaking during the distribution ceremony at the Government House on Saturday, the governor said the initiative reflects his administration’s commitment to inclusive development, poverty reduction, and women empowerment.

He noted that the number of beneficiaries was increased from the initial 5,200 to 6,680 to accommodate more women, including members of vulnerable groups.

Governor Yusuf described the programme as a strategic investment in human capital rather than just financial assistance, stressing that empowering women remains key to strengthening families and communities.

He explained that the initiative aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which focuses on improving the welfare of citizens and ensuring sustainable socio-economic growth.

The governor added that since assuming office, his administration has prioritised social protection and economic empowerment, with over 80 percent of its development blueprint already implemented.

He further revealed that over N800 million has been disbursed under the state’s youth empowerment programme, benefiting more than 5,300 young people with startup capital to support small businesses.

Governor Yusuf also highlighted other interventions, including mass wedding programmes for widows, spinsters, and less privileged individuals, as well as the distribution of tricycles to youths to enhance self-reliance.

He emphasised the critical role of women in economic development, describing them as the backbone of society and key drivers of local economies.

The governor urged beneficiaries to utilise the funds responsibly by investing in small-scale businesses, supporting their families, and contributing to the state’s economic growth.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to implementing people-oriented policies that promote dignity, expand opportunities, and ensure that no segment of society is left behind.

Governor Yusuf also commended stakeholders and partners for their support in making the programme successful, expressing optimism that Kano State will continue to witness progress through sustained empowerment initiatives.
