IGP Assures Swift Adherance to New Police Regulations
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has pledged to ensure swift adherence to the gazetted Nigeria Police Force Regulations, as part of the holistic reform of the service.
The IGP gave the assurance after receiving copies of the document from the Minister of Police Affairs, Dr. Ibrahim Gaidam, on Wednesday in Abuja.
Disu described the development as a major milestone, noting that the Regulations provide a clear framework for professional, accountable, and rights-based policing.
He commended the Minister for his leadership and appreciated the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Police Reform Secretariat.
The IGP assured wide dissemination of the document, its integration into training and operational framework and strict enforcement across all Police Commands and Formations nationwide.
In his keynote address, the Minister of Police Affairs reaffirmed Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening police reforms and ensuring effective implementation of the Regulations in line with national security priorities.
Earlier, the Head of the Police Reform Secretariat, Professor Olu Ogunsakin, said that the new regulations bridged the gap between the Police Act, 2020 and operational realities, effectively transitioning the reform agenda from policy to implementation.
The event was attended by representatives of the Police Service Commission, National Human Rights Commission, Nigeria Police Trust Fund, Federal Ministry of Justice, the UNDP, civil society organisations, and other key stakeholders.
