The Sokoto State Police Command has arrested suspected bandits’ informants and terrorism financiers, recording a series of operational successes in its ongoing crackdown on criminal activities across the state.
The Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Hayatu Hassan Shaffa, disclosed this on Friday while briefing journalists in Sokoto, saying the update was part of efforts to keep the public informed on the prevailing security situation and the Command’s achievements.
Shaffa revealed that operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, acting on credible intelligence, arrested one Aminu Mai Roba of Maikulki Village in Binji Local Government Area on April 17, 2026.
The suspect was intercepted along the Ruwa-Wuri-Tangaza Road with four cows and reportedly confessed during interrogation to receiving the livestock from the Lakurawa terrorist group at Wariya Village in Tangaza LGA. He was said to be responsible for selling the cattle and remitting proceeds to the terrorist network. The recovered animals have been registered as exhibits, while investigations continue.
The CP said the Command remains committed to its constitutional mandate of protecting lives and property, preventing crime, and maintaining law and order, in line with directives from the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
Highlighting other operations, Shaffa said a joint security team comprising the Police, Military, Community Guards, and local vigilantes repelled a bandits’ attack on Kwarengamba and Gayya da Kwari villages in Sabon-Birni LGA on April 8.
According to him, the attackers, armed with sophisticated weapons, were overpowered after a fierce gun battle and fled with gunshot wounds. During pursuit, security operatives recovered a sack containing 167 rounds of live ammunition.
In a separate operation on April 15, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit raided identified criminal hideouts in Dogon Daji (Tambuwal LGA), Mallamawa (Kware LGA), and Giyawa (Goronyo LGA), leading to the arrest of three suspects: Isiya Yusuf, Dankulu Sani, and Yushau Abubakar.
Items recovered from the suspects include seven locally made Dane guns, an AK-47 magazine, a military uniform, cutlasses, hard drugs, and substances suspected to be Indian hemp. The suspects have since been charged to court.
Shaffa reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to rid the state of criminal elements, stressing that intelligence gathering, strategic deployment, and community policing remain key to its operations.
“We are committed to ensuring that no criminal finds safe haven in our communities,” he said, urging residents to remain vigilant and support security agencies with credible information.
He assured the public of confidentiality and continued dedication to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
