Senior Lawyer urges Wike, Turaki camps to unite for PDP’s survival

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Magaji Mato, has called on factions loyal to Nyesom Wike and Taminu Turaki within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to put aside their differences and work towards stabilising the party.
Mato made the appeal during an interview on Arise Television, monitored in Abuja, on Sunday while reacting to the recent Supreme Court judgment involving the rival camps.
According to him, the apex court’s decision did not hand outright victory to either faction, noting that both the appeal filed by the Wike camp and the cross-appeal by the Turaki camp were dismissed.
He explained that the outcome effectively produced no clear loser, urging party stakeholders to see the ruling as an opportunity to rebuild unity within the PDP.
“Both factions should allow the PDP to breathe,” Mato said.
The senior lawyer maintained that the judgment should encourage leaders of the party to return to the negotiating table, reconcile aggrieved members and prioritise the survival of the PDP above individual interests.
He further advised key actors within the opposition party to “bury their pride” and collectively chart a new course capable of restoring stability and confidence in the PDP.
