Rep. Akintunde Rotimi Jr., the House of Representatives Spokesperson, has secured the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for Ekiti North I (Ikole/Oye) Federal Constituency after a decisive victory in the party’s primary election, winning 22 out of 24 wards.
People Daily Reports that, with the latest victory, Rotimi becomes one of the first lawmakers in the constituency’s recent political history to secure a return ticket to the National Assembly under the APC platform, further consolidating his influence in Ikole/Oye politics.
His 2023 electoral triumph over Hon. Bimbo Daramola marked a significant shift in the constituency’s political landscape, a development now reinforced by his re-election endorsement and overwhelming ward-level support.
The primary, which was keenly contested by nine aspirants, saw Rotimi defeat former House of Representatives member, Hon. Bimbo Daramola, alongside other contestants including Erelu Kemi Elebute-Halle, Mr. Gbenga Joseph, Prince Ayorinde Ejiojo, and Engr. Ayo Omotosho.
His victory followed a series of political realignments within the constituency, as three aspirants — Chief Mrs. Funke Owoseni, Mr. Kayode Omoboya, and Barr. Yemi Ayodele Ayeni — stepped down ahead of the exercise and openly endorsed his candidacy.
In addition, a constituency-wide endorsement event involving stakeholders across all eight local government areas and LCDAs further strengthened his bid.
The gathering brought together councillors, ward chairmen, women leaders, youth leaders, and other political actors who collectively described his representation as accessible, responsive, and development-driven.
The outcome further consolidates Rotimi’s political foothold in the constituency, having previously defeated Daramola in the 2023 general elections — an outcome that reshaped the political dynamics of Ekiti North I.
The exercise was conducted peacefully, with party officials commending the process as a reflection of internal democracy within the APC in Ekiti State.
Rotimi, who serves as Spokesperson of the House of Representatives, has in the 10th Assembly gained national visibility through legislative engagement, communication of parliamentary activities, and active participation in national discourse, further strengthening his profile ahead of the general elections.
