The last may not have been heard of the outcome of the Delta North Senatorial District primary election conducted by the All Progressives Congress (APC), as a group under the umbrella of Concerned Citizens of Anioma has insisted that they voted for Sen. Ned Nwoko and not Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa who was declared as winner of the election.
Leading a mass protest to the National Secretariait of the APC on Monday, Gregory Olufemi lyama and John Onyema Arthur, who served as Coordinator and Secretary of the Concerned Citizens of Anioma said what happened in the Delta North primary election was nothing but manipulation and imposition of former Governor Okowa as the senatorial candidate of the ruling party.
The petition which they submitted to the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nantawe Yilwatda rards in parts; “We, the Concerned Citizens of Anioma, Delta State, write to formally express our deep concern and protest regarding the recent senatorial primary election processes in Delta State and related political developments within the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“There are serious allegations and widespread public concerns within Anioma that the internal democratic processes of the party may have been compromised through undue influence, alleged intimidation, and irregularities during the senatorial primary election. These concerns, if not properly addressed, risk undermining public confidence in the APC and its commitment to internal democracy.
“We respectfully draw the attention of the party leadership to concerns surrounding Senator, who is alleged by some stakeholders to be politically active within APC structures despite claims that he has not formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). These allegations have generated confusion among party members and supporters at the grassroots level.
“There are also public concerns and political narratives suggesting that Senator Ifeanyi Okowa may be aligned with or politically supportive of former Vice President, which has further contributed to internal tension and distrust among party faithful in Delta State.
“Furthermore, concerns have been raised by supporters of Senator Nwoko, who is widely regarded by many constituents in Anioma as a preferred candidate, alleging that the conduct of the primaries did not reflect the genuine will of the people. These supporters also claim that political interference and alleged use of influence may have affected the fairness of the process”.
The group called on the APC National leadership to urgently investigate their concerns, ensure strict compliance with party constitution and internal democratic procedures, as well as take necessary steps to restore confidence among members and supporters.
They appealed for calm while emphasizing that the Concerned Citizens of Anioma do not support violence or political unrest, but rather seek justice, transparency, and fairness in all party processes.
