TheTiv Youth Organization has applauded President Muhamadu Buhari for assenting to the bill that sought to rename the Federal University of Agriculture Makurdi to JS Tarka University.
The bill was sponsored by Dr. John Dyegh, member representing Gboko/ Tarka at the Federal House of Representatives in 2018.
The TYO appreciations were contained in a press statement signed by President General of Tiv Youths Organization (TYO) Comrade Timothy Hembaor and made available to Peoplesdaily at the weekend in Makurdi.
The statement noted that an important part of the Amendment of the University of Agriculture Makurdi’s Establishment Act was not even in the name, positing that Tarka along with the Sardaunas, Awos and the Ziks have all engraved their names on walls of Nigeria’s history such that there is not so much that we can do to forget them.
It however said, the most important aspect of it is the radical alteration of the University’s set goals and mission which has been expanded from the mono-focus on studies in Agro Sciences to a broad conventional base wherein, the University now has the mandate to undertake the award of various degrees and certification of all courses as approved by the National Universities Commission. To wit; Social Sciences, Humanities, The Arts, Law, Medical Sciences, Education, Management, Actuarial Studies etc.
TYO added that the development was akin to the state been given a full-fledged Federal University with all the attendant benefits in Benue.
