The Commissioner of Police in Sokoto State, Hayatu Hassan Shaffa, has felicitated with the Muslim Ummah in the state on the occasion of this year’s Eid-el-Kabir celebration, while also issuing a comprehensive security advisory to residents.

The message was contained in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, and made available to journalists in Sokoto on Monday.

According to the statement, the commissioner, on behalf of officers and men of the command, congratulated the people of the Sokoto Caliphate and urged residents to comply with security guidelines aimed at ensuring a peaceful celebration.

The statement explained that following a tactical meeting with Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and tactical teams, the command had intensified patrols and intelligence-led surveillance across prayer grounds, markets, motor parks and other critical infrastructure in the state.

Residents were advised to report suspicious objects or unfamiliar persons seen around prayer grounds or crowded areas, while unapproved processions and gatherings without security clearance were strongly discouraged.

The police also urged citizens to secure their homes and business premises and educate family members, especially children, on basic safety measures.

The command stated that worshippers attending Eid prayers must cooperate with security personnel at designated entry points, stressing that unauthorized vehicles would not be allowed within prayer ground perimeters.

It added that firearms, sharp objects and intoxicants would not be permitted at event venues, while disorderly conduct, including pushing, running and hooliganism, would not be tolerated.

Parents and guardians were further advised to keep children under close supervision to prevent accidents or separation during the festivities.

The statement also appealed to traditional rulers and Islamic clerics to remind worshippers that Eid-el-Kabir symbolises compassion, restraint and respect for law and order.

The command disclosed that security monitoring would continue throughout the three-day celebration and beyond, warning residents against reckless driving, illegal fireworks and celebratory gunfire.

Particular caution was issued to road users along the Arkilla axis behind the Polytechnic and Bafarawa Estates.

Residents were also advised to dispose of animal remains only at designated abattoirs or approved collection points and to promptly report any post-celebration disturbances to the nearest police station or security post.

Shaffa stressed that security remained a collective responsibility, noting that adherence to the guidelines was necessary to safeguard public peace.

“Adhering strictly to these stipulated rules is not an infringement on your joy but a safeguard for our shared peace,” the commissioner stated.

He added that the Sokoto Caliphate should continue to serve as a model of discipline, unity and respect for human life.

The command urged members of the public to contact its control room on 08026451719 in the event of any security concern during the celebration.

The commissioner also prayed for a peaceful and blessed Eid-el-Kabir celebration for all Muslims.
