FCTA says environmental enforcement operations remain active

The Federal Capital Territory Administration has said environmental enforcement operations and food safety court sittings in the territory remain active despite reports suggesting otherwise.

The FCTA Public Health Department described claims that a court order halted its activities as false.

The department made the clarification in a statement issued through the Legal Officer at the Health and Human Services Secretariat, Barrister Idris Suleiman.

According to the statement, the ruling delivered by Justice Yusuf Halilu of the FCT High Court only restrained further sittings in matters relating to H-Medix Pharmacy Limited, the applicant in the suit.

The case, marked Motion No. M7935/2026, was filed against the FCTA Health and Human Services Secretariat and six others.

The department stressed that the order did not suspend environmental health enforcement or food safety prosecution activities across the Federal Capital Territory.

It urged residents and business owners to disregard reports claiming that environmental and public health enforcement had been stopped.

“The department remains committed to ensuring public safety by upholding the highest environmental and public health standards and ensuring compliance with these standards,” the statement read.

The FCTA further stated that its offices remained open while prosecution of offenders before environmental and food safety courts continued without interruption.

The administration reaffirmed its commitment to protecting residents through strict enforcement of public health regulations across the territory.
