Kebbi: 225 Councillors Receive Official Motorcycles
Kebbi State Governor Dr. Nasir Idris, on Tuesday distributed 225 brand-new motorcycles to councillors across the 21 Local Government Areas of the state as part of efforts to strengthen grassroots governance and enhance service delivery.
Speaking during the presentation ceremony held at the Government House, Birnin Kebbi, Governor Idris said the distribution of the motorcycles was in fulfillment of a pledge made to the councillors following consultations with them.
“After our consultative meeting, we found it necessary to redeem our pledge to the 225 councillors,“ he said.
He explained that the motorcycles would enable the councillors to effectively reach every nook and cranny within their wards, thereby improving their engagement with the people they represent.
The Governor expressed confidence in the commitment and contributions of councillors and local government chairmen towards supporting government programmes and addressing the needs of citizens at the grassroots.
He noted that the motorcycles would further empower the councillors to discharge their responsibilities diligently and maintain closer contact with their constituents.
Governor Idris urged the beneficiaries to make proper use of the motorcycles by regularly visiting their wards to identify the needs and aspirations of the people and channel such concerns to the appropriate authorities for prompt action.
Governor Idris congratulated the councillors and encouraged them to remain dedicated to the development of their communities.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Chairman of the Kebbi State Councillors Forum, Hon. Abubakar Abdullahi Chaba, expressed appreciation to the governor for what he described as a historic gesture.
He said the motorcycles would greatly assist them in carrying out their legislative and oversight responsibilities as well as facilitate movement across all nooks and crannies of the state.
Hon. Chaba assured the governor of their continued support and loyalty, pledging to redouble efforts in serving their people at ward level and supporting the administration’s developmental agenda.
