Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has called on residents of Nasarawa North Senatorial District to evaluate political candidates based on their track records and capacity to deliver rather than ethnic, religious, or sentimental considerations.
The governor made the appeal on Saturday during a stakeholders’ engagement in Akwanga, where he formally unveiled Barrister Danladi Umar Halilu Envulu-Anza as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the June 20 senatorial bye-election.
Addressing party leaders, traditional rulers, elders, and other stakeholders from across the district, Sule argued that communities would benefit more from leaders with proven records of service and development than from candidates promoted on the basis of identity politics.
According to him, the politics of religion and ethnicity should no longer determine electoral choices, stressing that voters deserve leaders whose achievements can be verified.
To illustrate his point, the governor highlighted key infrastructure projects undertaken by his administration, including the ongoing dual flyover construction in Mararaba, saying development remains the best measure of effective leadership.
Sule described Envulu-Anza as a capable and experienced administrator with the competence and network required to effectively represent the district in the Senate.
Earlier, Chairman of the DHE Campaign Organisation, Senator Philip Aruwa Gyunka, outlined the APC candidate’s public service record, recalling his career as a magistrate, the first Chief Registrar of Nasarawa State, and the longest-serving Secretary of the National Judicial Council (NJC).
Gyunka maintained that Envulu-Anza had consistently used public office to advance the interests of his people through support for infrastructure development, employment opportunities, and economic empowerment initiatives.
Speaking on behalf of the Nasarawa North Elders Forum, Elder Timothy Anjide disclosed that traditional rulers across the district had endorsed the APC candidate and urged stakeholders to remain united ahead of the election.
He called on party supporters to avoid internal divisions and work collectively to ensure victory for the APC in the forthcoming poll.
Also speaking, Director of the DHE Campaign, Coach Bally, described Envulu-Anza as a seasoned leader whose extensive national connections would be beneficial to the district if elected.
He expressed confidence that the APC candidate’s experience and influence would help attract development opportunities to Nasarawa North, even within the limited tenure available through the bye-election mandate.
