Kaduna CP Kicks Off Peace Football Tournament in Zaria
The Commissioner of Police in Kaduna State, CP Rabiu Muhammad, has emphasized the importance of sports in promoting peace, unity and youth development, as he attended the kick-off of a football tournament in Sabon Gari Local Government Area of the state.
The tournament, which features 16 teams, was inaugurated at Layin Zomo, Sabon Gari, Zaria, and was organised by the Commissioner of Police in collaboration with a philanthropist, Alhaji Ibrahim Umar Tafida, and the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).
The event was organised in honour of the police commissioner as part of efforts to strengthen peaceful coexistence, social cohesion and community engagement among residents.
Speaking at the ceremony, Rabiu described sports as a powerful tool for fostering peaceful coexistence and creating opportunities for positive interaction among young people.
According to him, football and other sporting activities provide a platform for youths to build friendships, promote unity and strengthen the bonds that unite people from diverse backgrounds.
He urged young people to shun violence, drug abuse, kidnapping, political thuggery and other social vices capable of undermining peace and development in society.
The commissioner also stressed the need for greater community participation in promoting security, calling on residents to support security agencies through cooperation and the provision of timely and credible information.
He commended the organisers for the initiative, noting that community-driven programmes such as sporting activities contribute significantly to crime prevention and social development.
The tournament is expected to bring together youths from different communities across the area, providing a healthy avenue for recreation, talent discovery and community integration.
