Kaduna Targets ₦20bn Monthly IGR as Tax Reforms Double Revenue to ₦9bn, KADIRS Boss Says

Date:

From Femi Oyelola, Kaduna

The Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service, KADIRS, states that the state aims to achieve ₦20 billion in monthly Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) as ongoing fiscal reforms continue to boost taxpayer confidence and revenue performance across Kaduna.

Executive Chairman of KADIRS, Comrade Jerry Adams, shared this during a courtesy visit by a delegation from the Association of Non-Indigenes Support Group for Governor Uba Sani, who conferred on him the title of Grand Patron of the association.

Adams revealed that Kaduna’s monthly IGR has increased significantly from an average of ₦4 billion in 2023 to about ₦9 billion currently. He credited this growth to reforms focused on improving tax administration and building public trust in the government.

He explained that taxpayers are increasingly willing to meet their civic duties because they see tangible results of government investments in key areas such as infrastructure, healthcare, education, and social welfare.

He emphasized that Governor Uba Sani’s administration remains committed to channeling tax revenues into projects that directly benefit citizens.

The KADIRS chairman mentioned that the agency plans to continue implementing policies that promote voluntary tax compliance while safeguarding taxpayers from multiple taxation and other exploitative practices.

“Revenue generation should not be viewed as a burden on citizens but as a collective responsibility that enables government to provide essential services and promote sustainable development,” he stated.

Adams also appreciated the honor from the association, viewing it as recognition of the vital role non-indigenes play in Kaduna’s economic growth and social progress. He reaffirmed the state’s dedication to inclusive governance, affirming that every resident, regardless of ethnic, religious, or regional background, has a stake in Kaduna’s development.

Earlier, Mr. Johnny Nwankwere, Co-Convener of the Association of Non-Indigenes Support Group for Governor Uba Sani, formally presented Adams with a letter of appointment and the association’s flag, designating him as Grand Patron. Nwankwere praised Adams as a visionary, reform-focused leader whose efforts have transformed tax administration in the state.

He commended the agency’s strides in reducing issues such as multiple taxation and harassment, noting that these reforms have improved relations between taxpayers and the government. The group pledged support for the state’s revenue efforts through public awareness campaigns and community mobilization.

Leading the delegation, Abdulsamad Chima Amadi, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Uba Sani on Support Groups, emphasized the importance of collaboration between government agencies and community organizations for development.

Members of the delegation praised the governor for ongoing projects such as the construction of vocational and skills centers in Soba, Rigachikun, and Samaru Kataf, which aim to empower youth, promote vocational training, and foster economic self-reliance. They committed to continuing support for the administration and mobilizing grassroots backing.

The visit, attended by members of KADIRS’ management team, highlighted the growing partnership between government bodies and community stakeholders to boost revenue, engage citizens, and foster inclusive growth in Kaduna.
