Borno school abduction: 7 students freed, others marched into bush by abductors

A joint operation by the Nigerian Army, police and Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) has rescued seven out of the undisclosed number of students abducted by terrorists on Monday morning in Lassa, Askira-Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.

The Peoples Daily had reported how the terrorists went into Government Day Secondary School Lassa at about 9:00 am and abducted students writing their Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE).

Two teachers were reported killed.

Prof. Usman Tar, the state commissioner of information and internal security, confirmed the rescue of the seven students, adding that efforts are ongoing to rescue the remaining abductees.

“For now, seven of them have been rescued. We cannot confirm their gender yet. Assessment is still ongoing,” he said.

The school is located about 16 kilometers away from Mussa community, where 42 school children abducted on May 15, 2026 are still being held captive.

The police spokesman in the state, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, said that the area command and other personnel have intensified operation to track and rescue those abducted.
