Senate President Godswill Akpabio has expressed confidence that the City Boy Movement will play a crucial role in delivering a resounding victory for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in the 2027, even as
he described the movement as a growing political force, wind blowing across the nation.
Akpabio stated this on Wednesday while receiving a delegation of the City Boy Movement during a courtesy visit to his office. He commended the group’s commitment and patriotism, describing its mission of mobilising support for President Tinubu’s second term as timely and commendable.
Describing the movement as a growing political force, Akpabio said, “The City Boy Movement is like a wind blowing across the nation. You may not see it, but you can feel it. Every political party in Nigeria is already feeling the impact of the City Boy Movement.”
He expressed confidence that the organisation would strengthen the President’s electoral chances by ensuring effective grassroots mobilisation and adequate representation at polling units nationwide.
“Never again shall we have a situation in any polling unit in Nigeria where Mr President will not have an agent because we have the City Boy Movement.
“In the last election, if your movement had existed, many of our votes that were not counted in several polling units would have been counted.
“I believe you have emerged at the right time, and I know you are fully prepared to ensure maximum victory in 2027.”
Akpabio urged members of the movement to remain focused as they mobilise support and educate voters across the country.
“As you travel across the country mobilising, sensitising and educating Nigerians, remember that other political parties are not doing the same.
“When President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s victory is eventually announced, some people may claim the election was rigged or make other allegations. Ignore such distractions and remain focused on your assignment.”
The Senate President encouraged the youths to see their involvement as an opportunity to shape Nigeria’s future while gaining valuable political and leadership experience.
“This is your opportunity to shape your future and take the lead in determining the direction Nigeria should follow. As you campaign for the President, you are also learning the skills of mobilisation and leadership that will prepare you for the future.”
He assured the group of his support, saying the National Assembly appreciates young Nigerians who choose constructive engagement over violence and social vices.
“We are with you. The Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is proud of the youths who have chosen the right path.
“We are aware that some young people have gone astray because of cultism and drug abuse. But while people often say we should build the youths because they are the future, I also say we must preserve the elders because God has endowed them with wisdom.”
Quoting a philosopher, Akpabio advised members of the movement and Nigerian youths to remain disciplined and focused.
“It is not a tragedy when an ordinary person passes through life without making an impact. The real tragedy is when a young man or woman with great potential allows character flaws to destroy that potential and ends life as a failure.
“You have the privilege of working for the future of your country. You have chosen a path that has nothing to do with cultism or terrorism.
“You are helping to shape the next administration under Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027. It will be unfortunate for any of you to lose focus. We assure you of our total support.”
Earlier, the Director-General of the City Boy Movement, Francis Shoga, said the visit was aimed at strengthening collaboration between the movement and the National Assembly.
He said the organisation was seeking Akpabio’s continued guidance and support as it expands its programmes nationwide, promotes civic participation among young Nigerians and contributes to national development.
