Kano/Jigawa Customs generates over N63bn revenue in 6 months

The Kano/Jigawa Customs area command has revealed that it has generated the sum of N63,078,655,523.44 billion from January to June, 2026.
The command said the amount has surpassed the N58,389,838,284.87 billion generated during the corresponding period of 2025 by approximately N4,688,817,238.57 billion, representing a growth of about 7.4 per cent, despite the decline in cargo throughput.
The Command, at a press conference by its acting Area Controller, Usman Umar Adamu, noted that the Kano Free Trade Zone had generated over N26 billion during the first half of 2026.
It explained that the figure exceeded the total revenue generated by the Zone from January to December, 2025 by approximately N4 billion.
According to Adamu, the Command’s initiatives also led to the recovery of about 3 billion Naira from abuse of transit procedures during the period under review.
He further stated that the Command intensified its enforcement activities through intelligence-driven operations and effective inter-agency collaboration, adding that it is in line with the Service’s mandate of protecting the nation’s economy and preventing the importation of controlled, prohibited and restricted goods.
He said the efforts resulted in 13 categories of notable detentions and seizures, amounted to a total Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N1,711,235,899.2.
The items include:unregistered pharmaceuticals such as, tramadol, pregabalin, among others, which were intercepted to protect public health in line with Section 55(c) of the NCS Act 2023.
Others, according to Adamu, include 4 units of Air pistols imported in contravention of the Firearms Act.
Others are endangered wildlife animals including elephant tusks under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) and Schedule 6 of the Export Prohibition List of the Common External Tariff (CET) 2022-2027
“Over 2,000 pieces of 25-litre kegs of foreign refined packaged vegetable oil were intercepted in order to protect domestic industries and in violation of Schedule 3 Import Prohibition List (Trade) of the Common External Tariff (CET).
“Military gear and accoutrements. 14 x 40ft transit containers involving diversion and abuse of transit procedures of Customs clearance in violation of Sections 45, 64 and 235 of the NCS Act 2023, smuggled vehicles and truck heads.
“ An RX Drone Camera GPS without an End User Certificate. Foreign Spaghetti and Macaroni Pasta in violation of Schedule 3 of the Import Prohibition List (Trade) of the Common External Tariff (CET).
“ Foreign Parboiled Rice 50kg in violation of Government Trade Policy.
“Counterfeit Packaging material for agrochemicals and insecticides in violation of intellectual property rights (IPR) and Section 168 of the NCS Act 2023.
“22 suspects were arrested in connection with the detentions and seizures.
“Some have been handed over to the relevant security and regulatory agencies for further investigation, while others are on administrative bail.
“Therefore, the total detentions and seizures recorded during the period under review amounted to a total Duty Paid Value (DPV) of 1,711,235,899.2 kabo.
The acting Area Controller explained that the feat was recorded following the Command’s comprehensive review of its administrative and operational operations while tracking performance indicators upon my assumption of duty as the Acting Customs Area Controller.
“This assessment enabled us to identify our strengths, address operational gaps and develop initiatives.
“These are all aimed at improving operational efficiency, enhancing compliance, boosting revenue generation, suppressing smuggling and ensuring the effective implementation of government fiscal and trade policies.
“The initiatives also aligned with the core mandates of the Service. It is therefore, my pleasure to present the achievements recorded by the Command during the period under review,” he explained.
