Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has explained that his choice of former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso as his running mate was driven by their shared vision for tackling poverty and rebuilding Nigeria through education.
Speaking in an interview with The Sun, Obi said Kwankwaso’s commitment to lifting people out of poverty and investing in human capital aligned with his own philosophy for national development.
According to him, both leaders believe that education is central to transforming society and reviving the country’s economy.
Obi said his administration would prioritize education as a key tool for developing Nigeria’s human capital, stressing that meaningful national progress cannot be achieved without investing in the education sector.
He added that the shared commitment to education and economic development has created strong synergy between himself and the former Kano governor.
The former Anambra State governor also dismissed reports of a rift between him and Kwankwaso, insisting that both leaders remain united and are working together ahead of the January 2027 general election.
