The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) officially opened its two-day 2026 Health Sector Joint Annual Review (JAR), signaling a major transition from basic administrative metrics toward measuring real, tangible patient outcomes.
Hosted by the Health Services and Environment Secretariat (HSES), the review convenes under the theme “From Data to Delivery: Closing the Gaps and Saving Lives.”
Declaring the event open on behalf of the Mandate Secretary for Health Services and Environment, Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe, the Acting Director General of the FCT Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Abubakar Ahmadu, delivered a clear message on the new direction of healthcare in the territory.
Dr. Fasawe emphasized that tracking administrative tasks alone is no longer sufficient, urging stakeholders to focus on measurable results that directly impact public health.
“We have moved beyond merely counting activities to measuring outcomes from lives saved through our health initiatives.
“This review serves as our opportunity to assess progress, identify gaps, and strengthen strategies across the board,” the HSES boss stated.
To put this outcome-driven approach into practice, Dr. Fasawe outlined key strategic priorities for the FCT health sector to include rigorous monitoring of critical indicators to safeguard mothers and newborns, enhancing the flow and predictability of Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) disbursements, improving data accuracy for smarter decision-making while rewarding exceptional healthcare workers, and calling on development partners to eliminate parallel systems and align resources directly with the FCT’s core indicators.
The two-day review brings together key representatives from the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, the Sector Wide Approach (SWAp) Coordinating Office, and prominent global health agencies, including the World Health Organization (WHO), Malaria Consortium, Jhpiego, and the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI).
By aligning global support behind local priority metrics, the FCTA aims to close critical operational gaps and accelerate progress toward Universal Health Coverage (UHC) for all residents.
