In a major move to attract foreign direct investment and boost municipal infrastructure, the Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) FCT Chapter and Executive Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, has arrived in the United States for a strategic working visit.

The foreign mission follows closely on the heels of an extensive multi-project commissioning tour across the Federal Capital Territory, conducted alongside FCT Minister Barr. Nyesom Wike.

Key highlights of the visit include high-level engagements scheduled with international investors, municipal leaders, and global organization executives to position AMAC as a top destination for foreign direct investment (FDI), according to an official press statement by Kingsley Madaki, Chief Press Secretary to the Executive Chairman.

The statement added that a major focus of the trip is the Sister Cities International (SCI) 70th Anniversary Homecoming taking place at The Ritz-Carlton in Washington, D.C.

It explained that founded in 1956 by U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower, Sister Cities International serves as a premier global network for citizen diplomacy, cultural exchange, and sustainable economic collaboration among local governments worldwide.

According to the statement, through citizen diplomacy, educational plenary sessions, and embassy roundtables, Hon. Maikalangu aims to establish formal Sister City partnerships that can deliver long-term infrastructure, trade, and development opportunities to Abuja residents.

“Our mission is clear: to ensure AMAC is actively positioned on the global map for sustainable investment, strategic municipal cooperation, and community development,” Maikalangu stated.
